Vanilla Cake (Magnolia Bakery recipe)
Ingredients:
1 ¼ self-rising flour
1 ½ all-purpose flour
1 cup butter; softened
2 cups sugar
4 eggs
1 cup milk
1 tsp. vanilla
- Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease and flour two 9″ cake pans or line two cupcake tins.
- In a small bowl, mix your flours together.
- In a large bowl, cream butter on medium speed and then gradually add sugar. Add eggs one at a time and beat until fluffy. Add flour in three parts alternating with milk. Stir in vanilla.
- Pour into prepared pans and bake for 25-30 minutes (18-20 minutes for cupcakes).
Chocolate Cake (Hershey’s recipe)
Ingredients:
2 cups sugar
1 ¾ cup all-purpose flour
¾ cup cocoa powder
1½ tsp. baking powder
1½ tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
2 eggs
1 cup milk
½ cup vegetable oil
2 tsp. vanilla extract
1 cup boiling water
- Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease and flour two 9″ round baking pans (or line cupcake tins).
- Stir together sugar, flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a large bowl. Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla and beat on medium speed, scraping sides of the bowl. Stir in boiling water (batter will thin). Pour evenly into prepared pans or spoon into prepared tins and bake for 30-35 minutes (17 minutes for cupcakes).
Ingredients:
½ cup shortening
½ cup butter; softened
3 ½ cups icing sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
¼ cup milk
- Beat shortening and butter together. Add icing sugar and beat for about 3 minutes, scraping the sides. Add vanilla and milk and beat for another 5 minutes until fluffy, scraping the sides as needed.
Ingredients:
½ cup butter
¾ cup cocoa powder
3 cups icing sugar
⅔ cup cocoa powder
3 cups icing sugar
⅓ cup milk
1 tsp. vanilla
- Melt butter. Stir in cocoa powder. Alternately add icing sugar and milk; beating to spreading consistency.
- Add vanilla and additional milk as needed.
Ingredients:
2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1 cup butter; softened
½ cup sugar
1 cup brown sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
2 eggs
2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 cup pecans; chopped (optional)
- Preheat oven to 375°F. Line two cookie sheets with parchment paper.
- Combine flour, baking soda and salt. Set aside.
- Beat butter, sugar, brown sugar and vanilla in a large bowl until creamy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Gradually beat in flour mixture until just combined. Add chocolate chips. and pecans, if desire.
- Drop 1 ½ inch balls of dough onto cookie sheets. Bake for 8-10 or until golden brown. Cool on baking sheet for 2 minutes then remove to wire rack to cool completely.
